Sambucus 'Lemony Lace' is absolutely breathtaking. Its luminous, serrated and extremely fine foliage gives it a unique look. Its leaves are bright yellow edged with red in spring, then turn chartreuse green as they age. The abundant clusters of white flowers are produced before leafing out, early in spring. Then, in the fall, they give way to small red fruits that are very popular with birds. This shrub can benefit from light shade, although it tolerates full sun. It is a wonderful addition to bird gardens and mixed borders. It flowers on old wood, so pruning is done after flowering, although this is not necessary if you want to preserve the small fruits. Deer resistant and fall interest.
