Nerium oleander, also known as Oleander, is an ornamental shrub native to the Mediterranean basin. It is prized for its spectacular flowers and great resistance to harsh conditions. The flowers are large and showy, trumpet-shaped. They have 5 petals (single), or double (2 x 5), or even triple (3 x 5). They can be of different colors, such as white, pink, red, yellow or orange. Flowering is abundant and extends from summer to autumn. The leaves are narrow and lanceolate, of a glossy dark green. It can be grown in pots indoors or on a terrace or balcony during the summer. There are many varieties of Oleander, each with its own characteristics. Among the most popular are: 'Albus': white flowers 'Roseum': pink flowers 'Rubrum': red flowers 'Luteum': yellow flowers 'Variegatum': leaves variegated with green and white Warning: All parts of Nerium oleander are toxic. It is therefore important to keep it out of reach of children and pets.
