This fast-growing, trailing plant instantly transforms your space. Perfectly suited for hanging baskets or shelf display, it offers an exuberant look with a minimum of fuss. Add this touch of dazzling colour to your collection!
Features
- Foliage: Evergreen, variegated with pink, white, gray-green, and purple. The stems and undersides of the leaves display a striking magenta colour.
- Flowering / Fruiting / Stems: Small, ephemeral pink or white flowers appear intermittently from spring to autumn. The main attraction is the foliage and the cascading habit.
- Light: Requires Bright indirect light to maintain the rich coloration and prevent the leaves from becoming pale or leggy.
- Habit: Trailing and bushy. The stems are robust and cascade beautifully.
- Growth: Fast. Develops quickly, creating a lush, cascading effect.
- Potting Mix: Use a light, All-purpose potting mix that is well-drained.
- Temperature and Humidity: Prefers standard room temperatures (64–75°F / 18–24°C). Appreciates moderate to high humidity.
- Resistances: Very easy to care for and resilient to occasional watering neglect, but the sap can cause mild skin irritation in sensitive individuals.
Use
- Types of Use: Ideal as a Hanging Planter to display its colourful stems, as a Trailing Pot Plant on a shelf or mantel, and excellent for Easy Propagation (Gift).
- Decorative Benefits: The vibrant pink and purple colour adds a dynamic contrast to any décor. The cascading habit brings softness and movement to the straight lines of a room.
Maintenance
- Watering: Allow the soil to dry out by half before you water moderately. It is crucial to avoid overwatering, which causes root rot. Prefer watering from the bottom (Bassinage) to avoid wetting the foliage.
- Fertilizing: Fertilize regularly with a liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength (or every 15 days) during the growing season (spring–summer).
- Pruning/Pinching: Pinch the stem tips regularly (and remove spent flowers) to encourage branching and maintain a dense habit. Remove leggy stems in the spring to stimulate renewal.
