Directions for Use and Application Rates
For optimal results, mix the marine calcium well into the top 10 to 15 centimetres (4 to 6 inches) of soil when applying, as it is not water-soluble. Repeat application every 8 weeks or as needed.
- Demanding Plants (tomatoes, broccoli, geraniums): 1/3 scoop* per plant.
- Vegetable Gardens and Flower Beds: 1 to 4 scoops* per 1 m² (10.76 sq ft).
- Lawns (correction): 0.5 kg per 10 m² (1.1 lb per 107.6 sq ft). After the corrective treatment, apply annually in reduced quantity (1 kg per 100 m² / 2.2 lb per 1,076 sq ft).
- Compost in Maturation: 2 scoops* per m³ (1.3 yd³).
*1 scoop = 28 g. May vary depending on soil type.
Understanding the Formulation
Bionik® Marine Calcium is a 100% natural organic amendment, composed exclusively of marine mollusk shells (clams). This unique composition offers targeted and effective benefits for the health of your soil and plants:
- Calcium (Ca): Present at 33.5%, it is the key element in this product. Calcium is essential for cell wall development, making plants stronger and more resilient. It also helps prevent deficiencies like blossom end rot in tomatoes and other vegetables.
- Magnesium (Mg): Although present in small quantities (0.025%), magnesium plays a vital role in photosynthesis and enzyme activation, contributing to the overall vitality of the plant.
- Nitrogen (N): With 0.2% total nitrogen, this product provides a small contribution to vegetative growth, essential for green foliage.
- Phosphorus (P₂O₅): At 0.7%, phosphorus is crucial for root development, flowering, and fruiting.
- Potassium (K₂O): At 0.02%, potassium helps strengthen plant resistance to diseases and environmental stresses.
- Neutralizing Value (86%): Indicates the product's ability to neutralize soil acidity and increase pH, thereby improving nutrient availability for plants.
