Illuminate your shaded spaces with New Guinea Impatiens 'Color Power'! They offer continuous and vibrant blooms in a magnificent pure White, deep Red, or Blue-Violet colour. Ideal for hanging baskets or pots, these Impatiens bring a tropical touch and constant colour from spring until the first frost.
Characteristics
- Foliage: The foliage of New Guinea Impatiens is generally larger and more robust than classic Impatiens, often dark green to bronze, forming a dense mass beneath the flowers.
- Flowering: Produces large flat flowers with five petals. Flowering is remarkably abundant and continuous from planting to frost, creating a superb mass of colour.
- Light Requirements: Prefers partial to full shade. They tolerate a bit of morning sun, but avoid intense afternoon sun which can scorch the foliage and reduce flowering.
- Habit: Dense herbaceous annual with a mounded and upright habit. It branches well and quickly fills containers. In a hanging planter, the stems will tend to spread and trail slightly over the edges of the container, creating a beautiful floral mass.
- Growth: Its growth is vigorous and fast, quickly filling the planter with a mass of foliage and flowers. Reaches approximately 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 inches) in height at maturity, with a spread of 25 to 30 cm (10 to 12 inches).
- Soil: Adapts to various soil types and pH. Prefers well-drained soil. For pots and planters, use a good quality, light, well-drained container mix that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged.
- Watering: Watering is essential for Impatiens in containers. Avoid the substrate drying out completely. The soil should be kept consistently moist, but never waterlogged. Regularly check soil moisture and water thoroughly when necessary, allowing excess water to drain.
Usage
- Types of Use: Ideal in pots or for hanging on balconies, patios, under trees, in shaded entrances, or any other garden spot lacking direct sunlight. Often used as a "filler" plant in container compositions and where an intense visual impact of a single color is desired.
- Decorative Benefits: Offers a mass of colourful flowers and magnificent foliage that instantly transform shaded areas. Create a vibrant and attractive focal point with a unified colour. Its well-filled habit ensures excellent presentation.
Maintenance
- Fertilization: Requires regular fertilization. For continuous and abundant flowering, fertilize your New Guinea Impatiens every 1 to 2 weeks with a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants, diluted according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Pruning: New Guinea Impatiens 'Color Power' are generally self-cleaning, meaning they drop their faded flowers naturally. Light pinching of young plants can promote denser branching if desired, but this is often not necessary for this series.
