The 'FIRE AND ICE'® Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is a true feast for the eyes, offering a fascinating colour transformation throughout the season! This remarkable shrub begins its bloom with magnificent conical flower clusters of pure white in summer. Over the weeks, these flowers take on an increasingly intense pink hue, finally reaching a spectacular burgundy red in the fall. A must-have for extended interest in the garden!

Key features

  • Evolving blooms: panicles of flowers changing from white to pink then burgundy red.
  • Long season of interest: superb from summer until the first frosts.
  • Habit: well-branched shrub with an upright habit.
  • Size: reaches approximately 150 cm in height and 120 to 180 cm in width, ideal as a specimen or in borders.
  • Hardiness: well-suited for the Quebec climate (Zone 4 or hardier).
  • Exposure: prefers sun or part shade for optimal flowering.

Planting and care

  • Planting: choose a sunny or partly shaded location with rich, moist but well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, amend the soil with compost, plant, and water well.
  • Watering: maintain good moisture, especially during dry periods, particularly in the first year. Mulch will help retain moisture.
  • Fertilizing: applying compost in spring or a flowering shrub fertilizer is beneficial.
  • Pruning (Important): prune in early spring, before buds break. Cut stems just above the first bud of the previous year's wood. Do not cut into wood older than two years to avoid slowing its growth and the production of new shoots and flowers, as this variety blooms on new wood.

A seasonal show for your garden!

Add the 'FIRE AND ICE'® Hydrangea to your landscape for a dynamic and changing touch of colour that is sure to impress. Enjoy its evolving beauty from July through fall!
