Large, fast-growing palm tree, reaching 10 m in height in its natural habitat. In Quebec, it is grown indoors and will therefore not have a developed trunk. Young plants have spiny petioles, bearing drooping fan-shaped fronds. It prefers a humid environment. Water when the top third of the soil is dry. Requires medium lighting, avoid direct sun except in winter for maximum light. If the leaves turn yellow or brown, the humidity is too low.
