  • Sturdy stems without sagging
  • Shifting colour white to pink
  • Ideal for incredible dried bouquets
  • Fast growth and exceptional vigour

The 'Phantom' panicle hydrangea reinvents open spaces with its spectacular inflorescences, recognized as the most massive in its class. Carried proudly by stems of exemplary rigidity, its enormous flower panicles bloom a luminous creamy white in July before transforming into a rich, vibrant pink in autumn. This vigorous and easy-going shrub masterfully structures outdoor decors and stands out as the undisputed star of borders and flowering hedges.

Characteristics

  • Foliage : Deciduous, oval, and pointed leaves of a beautiful textured mid-green, which turn gently yellow-purple in autumn before falling.
  • Flowering / Fruiting / Stems : Giant, dense, conical flower panicles, often measuring over 30 cm long. Flowers pass from creamy white to pure white, finishing a sustained dark pink in autumn. Extremely robust, woody stems prevent sagging under the weight of the blooms.
  • Light : Performs at its best in full sun or partial shade.
  • Habit : Upright, rounded, and compact, offering a solid and well-branched architectural structure.
  • Growth : Fast growth rate, reaching a maximum height of 200 cm and a spread of 150 cm at maturity.
  • Soil : Adapts to a wide variety of soils but prefers rich, loose, fresh, and well-drained soil.
  • Temperature : Excellent hardiness, withstanding harsh winter climates down to zone 3.
  • Resistance : Demonstrates superb tolerance to urban pollution as well as common fungal diseases, and effectively resists white-tailed deer and hare and rabbit browsing once established.

Use

  • Types of use : Plant in mass plantings, in flowering hedges to define spaces, as a focal point specimen, or even in a large container to enhance a terrace.
  • Decorative advantages : Offers a striking and evolving visual display over long months. Its cut flowers, fresh or dried, compose sumptuous indoor bouquets.

Maintenance

  • Watering : Water regularly, especially during periods of high heat and during the first two years following planting, to maintain fresh soil.
  • Fertilization : Apply a fertilizer for flowering shrubs or a rich compost in early spring to stimulate an even more spectacular bloom.
  • Pruning : Prune severely early in the spring, before buds appear, cutting back the previous year's stems to about 15-30 cm from the ground to encourage the production of giant flowers.
  • Planting : Maintain a spacing of 120 to 150 cm between plants to allow an optimal deployment of the silhouette.
