Calathea roseopicta 'Princess Jessie' is a spectacular houseplant, prized for its ornamental foliage with remarkable patterns and colours. This Calathea variety brings an exotic and elegant touch to any indoor space.
The large, oval, and glossy leaves of the 'Princess Jessie' are a true spectacle. They display a dark green, almost black, background contrasted by wide, bright pink bands that extend from the edges towards the centre, as well as a vibrant pink midrib. The underside of the leaves showcases a beautiful purple hue.
Light, Watering, and Soil Needs:
- Light: This plant prefers indirect, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn its delicate leaves.
- Watering: The Calathea 'Princess Jessie' likes consistently moist but not soggy soil. Water regularly, allowing the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Use lukewarm, non-calcareous water.
- Soil: A light potting mix, rich in organic matter and well-draining, is ideal.
- Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer for houseplants, diluted by half, once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
Care and Maintenance:
- Humidity: This tropical plant requires high humidity. Mist the foliage regularly, use a humidifier, or place the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
- Temperature: The 'Princess Jessie' prefers warm and stable temperatures, between 18°C and 27°C (64°F and 80°F). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Repotting: Repot every 1 to 2 years in the spring, into a slightly larger pot, when the roots become too cramped
