The aphelandra attracts the eye with the contrast of color on its numerous, long oval leaves. This shrub from the Brazilian tropical forest is compact and bears bright yellow spike flowers, which remain for a long time, from June to October. It needs bright light without direct sun, a humid environment without drafts. Well-drained potting soil should remain slightly moist during the growing season; it can be allowed to dry out a few centimeters during the winter.
