Discover Euphorbia hybrid Diamond Frost® (Euphorbia hybrid Diamond Frost®), the most awarded plant in Proven Winners history! This bestseller is a true marvel: it forms clouds of airy white flowers that bloom non-stop from spring until hard frosts. Exceptionally tough, it's extremely heat and drought tolerant, requires no deadheading, and adapts to a multitude of situations, transforming any arrangement into a light and luminous display.
Characteristics
- Foliage : The foliage is green, composed of narrow, widely spaced leaves, ranging from grayish-green to bright green. It offers a subtle contrast and allows the flowers to stand out.
- Bloom : Produces a profusion of tiny, pure white, airy "flowers" (actually bracts), creating a cloud-like or baby's breath effect. Blooming is remarkably abundant and continuous, without interruption, from planting time until frost, as the plant is sterile and produces no seeds. It can be used as a filler flower in floral arrangements.
- Light : Thrives in full sun or part shade. Although it prefers sun, it performs surprisingly well in shadier conditions.
- Habit : Its habit is mounding and slightly trailing, making it an excellent choice as a "filler" or "spiller" in containers. Its delicate, wiry stems weave elegantly among other plants.
- Growth : Reaches a height of approximately 30 to 46 cm (12 to 18 inches) and can spread or trail up to 46 cm (18 inches). Its growth is fast, and it fills the space well.
- Humidity : Requires average water needs. It is drought-tolerant but is sensitive to overwatering. Allow the soil to dry between waterings.
- Soil : Adapts to average fertility, well-drained soil of any type. An optimal pH is between 5.8 and 6.5.
- Temperature : Extremely heat tolerant. Being an annual (tender perennial in zones 10-12), it thrives in warm climates and continues to bloom even in very hot weather. It is not frost-hardy.
- Watering : Average water needs. It requires little to no supplemental watering once established, but regular watering is recommended for container plants. The plant is sensitive to overwatering.
Uses
- Types of Use : Incredibly versatile, it can be planted alone or in combinations in all types of containers (pots, window boxes, hanging baskets) and in landscape beds. It's perfect for borders, as an accent plant at the front of beds, or in cottage gardens.
- Decorative Advantages : Its clouds of airy white flowers create a delicate, airy effect that softens any arrangement. It harmonizes with a multitude of colours and textures, adding a constant sparkle. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and is deer and rabbit resistant.
Care
- Fertilization : An annual application of fertilizer or compost for garden beds is sufficient. For container plants, regular fertilization (monthly with a balanced soluble fertilizer) is recommended for optimal performance.
- Pruning : Maintenance is easy. It is self-cleaning and does not need deadheading, which keeps it tidy. While pruning is generally not necessary, you can trim it back at any time to shape it or encourage denser branching and increased blooming, especially if it appears tired in very hot weather.
- Planting :
- Distance : Space plants approximately 25 to 30 cm (10 to 12 inches) for good filling.
- Depth : Plant the root ball at the same level as the soil in the original container.
- Period : Plant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed, when the soil is warm.
