Brighten your garden with Petunia Supertunia® Bordeaux™ from Proven Winners, an award-winning bestseller featuring soft, enchanting plummy-pink flowers with deep, rich plum-purple veins. Renowned for its exceptional vigour, slightly mounded habit, and spreading capability, this petunia offers continuous and spectacular blooming from spring until the first hard frosts, bringing an explosion of colour to your containers and flower beds.

Characteristics

  • Foliage : The foliage is green, medium-sized, forming a dense and attractive mass beneath the flowers.
  • Bloom : Produces medium to large-sized flowers, a soft and delicate plummy-pink with deep, rich plum-purple veins. Blooming is continuous and abundant from planting until hard autumn frosts, with no deadheading required.
  • Light : Prefers full sun to partial shade. Requires at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal performance and maximum bloom.
  • Habit : Its habit is slightly mounding and trailing, making it an excellent choice as a filler and spiller plant in containers. It's also very effective as a groundcover or edging plant.
  • Growth : This is a very vigorous petunia. It reaches a height of 10 to 30 cm (4 to 12 inches) and can spread up to 46-61 cm (18-24 inches), with stems that can trail up to 91 cm (36 inches).
  • Humidity : Requires average humidity. Although it is drought-tolerant once established, it will perform better with regular watering, especially during intense heat.
  • Soil : Adapts to average fertility, well-drained soil.
  • Temperature : Extremely heat tolerant, but light trimming may be beneficial if night temperatures remain very high.
  • Watering : Average water needs. Once established, it tolerates drought, but regular watering is recommended, especially for container plants.

Uses

  • Types of Use : Ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, mixed container arrangements, flower bed borders, as groundcover, or for mass planting in the landscape.
  • Decorative Advantages : Its unique flowers in shades of pink and plum bring sophistication and constant radiance. Its prolonged bloom attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, adding life and colour to your outdoor space.

Care

  • Fertilization : An annual application of fertilizer or compost for garden beds, and regular fertilization (e.g., every 1 to 2 weeks) for container plants, will ensure the best possible flowering performance.
  • Pruning : Deadheading (removing spent flowers) is not necessary. You can lightly trim plants with scissors to shape them if desired, or if blooming decreases in very hot weather. This will increase branching and lead to more flowers when temperatures cool and plants begin blooming again.
  • Planting : Space plants 30 to 61 cm (12 to 24 inches) apart to allow for good spread and optimal filling. Plant the root ball at the same level as the soil in the original container. Plant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed, when the soil is well warmed.
