The 'Black Kabouli' chickpea is a rare heritage variety originally from Kabul, Afghanistan. It is uniquely characterized by its deep black seeds, providing a striking visual contrast in your dishes. Contrary to popular belief, this chickpea grows very well in our climate and adapts easily to local garden conditions. From the Tourne-Sol co-operative farm, these certified organic seeds produce hardy plants that will delight lovers of hummus and unique salads with their rich, nutty flavour.

Culture

  • Sow early in the spring as soon as the soil thaws, as this variety is hardy and tolerates light frost.
  • Space the plants well to allow for good air circulation and uniform pod ripening.
  • Harvest the seeds at full maturity after approximately 100 days, once the plants begin to turn yellow.
  • Sow seeds at a depth of 3 cm (1").
