Clean and Weed the Area: Thoroughly remove weeds, perennial roots, and plant debris across the entire target area before applying.
Water the Soil Thoroughly: Soak the soil deeply prior to spreading so moisture is sealed into the ground from day one.
Spread Mulch Evenly: Apply an even layer 5 to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 in) thick across the entire planting bed with a garden rake for a uniform finish.
Clear Root Crowns: Leave an open collar of 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in) around the base of tree trunks, shrub crowns, and perennial stems to prevent fungal rot.
