The 'Love Story' Hosta, a variety from the SHADOWLAND® collection, is destined to become the star of your shady corners. This premium perennial tells a true love story with its spectacular foliage and elegant flowers. It forms a generous mound and brings rich texture and colour where few other plants can thrive, combining exceptional beauty with great ease of cultivation.

Characteristics

  • Foliage: The plant develops long, heart-shaped leaves with a weeping habit. The foliage, of good substance, presents a complex and magnificent variegation: medium green margins surround a creamy white center, all accentuated by chartreuse jetting where the colours meet. A gentle piecrust wave edges each leaf.
  • Flowering: In early summer, tall flower scapes (up to 79 cm) rise above the foliage. They carry large clusters of pure white tubular flowers.
  • Light: It thrives in shady spots, from partial shade to full shade.
  • Habit: It forms a large, dense, wide, and mounded habit.
  • Growth: With a medium growth rate, it reaches a height of 36 to 41 cm and an impressive spread of 91 to 110 cm.
  • Moisture: It prefers soil that maintains consistent moisture.
  • Soil: It grows best in rich organic, moist, and well-drained soil with an acidic to neutral pH.
  • Hardiness: Very hardy, it faces Zone 3 winters without any problem.
  • Watering: It requires consistent watering so the soil never dries out completely.
  • Resistance: As a premium hosta, it demonstrates better resistance to insects and slugs than common varieties.

Uses

  • Types of Use: Its wide spread makes it an excellent choice for mass plantings, shade garden borders, or as a groundcover to hide fading bulb foliage. It also performs magnificently in containers.
  • Ornamental Features: The variegated foliage is the main attraction; it illuminates the dark areas of the garden. The white flowering adds a touch of elegance and attracts hummingbirds.

Care

  • Fertilizing: Amend the soil with compost or organic matter at planting. A spring application of a balanced fertilizer will support its growth.
  • Pruning: Its maintenance is minimal. Remove dead foliage after the first frosts to prevent insect problems the following spring.
  • Planting: Plant in rich, moist soil in a shady location.
