Illuminate your plantings with the Petunia Capella™ series! This stunning, sun-loving collection stands out with its compact, semi-trailing habit, adorned with large, showy flowers. Offering abundant blooms throughout the season, each Capella™ variety is a must-have for containers, hanging baskets, and borders, ensuring a colourful and easy-care display.
Characteristics
- Foliage: Dense green foliage, serving as a backdrop for the large, vibrant flowers. Foliage is evergreen but the plant is grown as an annual.
- Flowering: Produces large, showy, single flowers. Flowering is early and continuous throughout the season, ensuring an abundance of colour.
- Light Requirements: Ideal for full sun to part sun. This series is designed for sun-loving locations.
- Habit: Compact, semi-trailing habit, with a mounded growth habit. The naturally controlled habit was selected for quart production but will also grow to fill a larger pot or garden bed.
- Growth: Its growth is vigorous and fast. Mature height is approximately 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 inches), with a spread of approximately 25 to 36 cm (10 to 14 inches).
- Humidity: Requires average water needs.
- Soil: Prefers normal, loamy soil, well-drained.
- Temperature: Heat tolerant.
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during hot months, to keep the soil uniformly moist.
- Resistances: Heat tolerant. Performs well outdoors.
Usage
- Types of Use: Excellent for containers, hanging baskets, borders, and garden beds. Often used as a "filler" in container compositions. Also suitable as ground cover.
- Decorative Benefits: Offers a mass of large, bright, and showy flowers on green foliage, illuminating sunny plantings. Its abundant flowering ensures consistent colour throughout the season. It attracts pollinators.
Maintenance
- Fertilization: Fertilize regularly to support continuous and abundant flowering.
- Pruning: The Capella™ series is self-cleaning, meaning it drops its spent flowers naturally. Little maintenance is required, primarily to remove dieback when necessary. Light pinching of young plants can promote denser branching if desired, but this is often not necessary for this series.
- Planting:
- Spacing: Approximately 25 cm (10 inches) apart when grown in masses or as a ground cover.
- Depth: Plant at the same depth as it was in its container.
- Period: Blooms early enough for any market. Plant in spring after all risk of frost has passed.
