Your Festive Set of 4 Pots (10 cm)
1. Mojito Mint
Mix authentic Cuban mojitos thanks to this must-have variety. Its mild and refreshing notes complement other ingredients beautifully without overpowering them.
- How to harvest: Pinch the tips of the stems just above a cluster of leaves. This technique stimulates bushier growth and prevents the plant from bolting into flower.
2. Pineapple Mint
Surprise your guests with its unique variegated foliage and irresistible tropical scent. It instantly upgrades fruit punches, iced teas, and summer fruit salads.
- How to harvest: Pick individual leaves or cut entire stems as needed. Maintain a regular harvest to keep the plant compact after repotting.
3. Basil
Bring a touch of modern sophistication to your drinks. Basil pairs wonderfully with gin, artisanal lemonades, and simple syrups to create signature recipes.
- How to harvest: Always remove the top leaves by cutting the main stem right above the next two leaves. Avoid picking the bottom leaves, as the plant needs them to keep growing.
4. Lemon Thyme
Add a subtle citrus note and a hint of woody complexity to your cocktails. It excels in drinks made with vodka or bourbon, and makes a beautiful garnish for your summer glasses.
- How to harvest: Snip the tips of the green, tender stems using small scissors. Avoid cutting into the hard wood at the base to ensure quick regeneration.
Essential Planting Advice
Since these herbs come in temporary production pots, give them the best environment to thrive by transplanting them right after purchase:
- Repotting (recommended for patios): Move each variety into a larger decorative pot with drainage holes, or group them according to the companion rules below. Use a premium-quality potting soil rich in organic matter to feed the plants all summer long.
- In-ground planting: Wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before planting your herbs directly into the garden or flowerbeds. Amend your soil with compost to help them root successfully.
- Sun exposure: Place your new containers in a warm spot that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Basil and lemon thyme love full sun, while mints easily tolerate afternoon partial shade.
- Can they be planted in the same pot? Basil and lemon thyme make a wonderful duo and share a large planter beautifully. However, always isolate the mints (Mojito and Pineapple) into separate individual pots. Mints have very aggressive spreading roots that would quickly choke out the basil and thyme. Furthermore, planting the two mints together could cross and alter their unique individual flavors over time.
