As a very hardy perennial, chive is probably the simplest herb to grow. She tolerates everything; shade, sun, excess water and drought! In the refrigerator, it retains its onion aroma for almost a week; you can also freeze it. It is usually used raw, chopped in salads or in fresh cheese, to enhance dishes or as a garnish in soups. Dried chives lose their scent. Its flower is also edible, having a violet aroma. Beware of limited toxicity for cats, dogs, horses and also many birds. It attracts pollinating insects with its flowering but its foliage repels unwanted insects and animals due to its high sulfur content.
